 Nutritional Deficiencies

 A limited carbohydrate diet can be right for you. If you are eating too many of the wrong carbs now, the reduction in carbs will be useful for you! 

However, when you cut out too many of the ‘good carbs’ such as fruits and vegetables, you may deny the essential nutrients a body needs for healthy functioning.

Going low on carbs may reduce your phytochemicals and other essential minerals.

The Keto Flu

You may experience irritability and lack of concentration when you first go on the keto diet. Vomiting, nausea and brain fog are all side effects of this ‘flu’. 

This is your body adapting to new processes, such as burning fat instead of sugar, to become energized. 

This change can make you feel weak as your mind and body deal with the transition. 

When one starts ketosis, there is a significant amount of water loss from your body. Have electrolytes and consume water regularly to keep yourself hydrated.

Some of you may not experience any symptoms at all, and others might experience the keto flu for a week or more.

Loss of Libido

Switching to a keto lifestyle can make you lose weight, but along with it, your libido too. 

The change in libido occurs due to the hormonal changes when your body goes into ketosis.

This is usually a temporary phase because you may experience an increase in libido when you have adapted to your new ketogenic lifestyle. 

 Don’t let this temporary side-effect stop you because not everyone experiences this change.

Damage of Kidney

Frequent urination could put your kidneys at risk. 

In this condition, you are losing some of the essential electrolytes like potassium, magnesium and sodium. These electrolytes are essential for the efficient functioning of your kidneys.

 Increased consumption of meat, mainly processed meat, can make your body too acidic, which can lead to increased levels of uric acid. High levels of puts you at risk of gout. 

Increase your consumption of water to avoid developing kidney stones. 

 Diarrhoea and Constipation

These two side effects may not appear dangerous, so they may not concern you. However, a lack of fibre in your diet can lead to constipation, which can become uncomfortable, and is not suitable for your bowel health. 

 If you include vegetables full of fibre in your diet, it will help overcome this side effect. 

The Keto diet is one of the most effective weight loss programs today. 

However, health experts are warning people about the possible side effects. 

 Your body works well when you treat it. This is true for a balanced diet, containing necessary vitamins and minerals. 

So you have to be careful and watch what you eat. 

The important question for you is: Which type of diet is healthier or better for you? 

One that is low on carbs and high on healthy fats and proteins, or a diet high in processed fast foods and processed meats, with little or no nutritional content at all? 

The answer to this question is self-evident.
